Children make waves with Charity Sponsored Swim

They have done it! A group of 24 children who have their weekly swimming lessons with Water Lilies Swimming School in Norfolk and Suffolk came together on Saturday 15th July in Harleston to take part in our swimming school's first ever charity swim. And together they have raised over £1,000 for charity!

The children aged between 5 and 10 years old chose a distance they would like to swim and raised money for charity with a sponsorship form. The children swam lengths of the 22m pool in Harleston.

On the day they were supported by their parents and grandparents who counted the lengths they swam and cheered them on.

"It was so lovely to see my Granddaughter swim so far and with such good technique, which she has clearly learnt at her swimming lessons. I am very proud of her and the great effort from all of the children there all doing something themselves to raise money for charity,"  said Emilia's Grandpa Peter Sugar.

Water Lilies' poolside assistants and instructors staffed the charity event. "The swimming by all the children who took part was so inspiring and impressive. It was a fun and enjoyable event and the children's swimming was remarkable, they all exceeded their distance goals!" said Teresa Griffin, owner/founder and swimming instructor at Water Lilies Swimming School.

"A lot of focus, drive and determination from the children who were all very proud of their own effort. We were just thrilled they enjoyed it so much. Thank you to all of their parents and grandparents who supported them all so well. It was a great event and we are very proud of the children who took part. We look forward to doing this again next year!"

Every child who took part in fact swam a distance more than their original distance goal, and some swam over and above what they expected. There were a range of distances achieved such as 220m through to 1,000m, 1,500m, and some swimmers swam over 2,500m! The swimming event was for charity and not for official distance recording. The children work towards official distance certificates during their swimming lessons with Water Lilies.

The sponsored swim is part of Water Lilies' 10 Year Anniversary celebrations. The swimming school is raising money throughout 2017 for three local charities: Nelson's Journey Norfolk's Bereavement Charity, EACH and East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Thank you to everyone who took part and congratulations to you all for your fantastic swimming and raising so much money for charity.

We are delighted to announce the winner of our special Woolnough Trophy award

Each term Water Lilies' instructors are invited to nominate those students which have really stood out that term - for their effort, enthusiasm, achievement and more. One of those nominated is awarded our golden Woolnought Trophy.
